Here are some frequently asked questions based on what we have been asked and what we think it is important to know. If your question isn’t here please contact us to get the answer you need.

  • How do I know if you’re the right photographer for me?

It’s important that you feel comfortable with us. If after talking to us you feel that we understand your needs, that we will look after you and capture the feel of your wedding as well as the images you want then we are the ones for you. All of this you will find out a the pre-wedding consultation (see the choosing what you want section) , we won’t pressure you to make a decision at this point.

  • I or my partner don’t like having our photo taken. How can you help us?

Plenty of people dislike having their photos taken and photographers tend to be the worst about it! We hope that meeting us at the consultation and having an informal photo taken then will help you. A pre-wedding photo shoot is a great way to get used to being in front of a camera and feel more relaxed about it on your special day. Reportage style photography means you’re not likely to notice when you’re being photographed so may be your best option. If you want posed shots we will work with you to make you feel more comfortable and Wendy’s experience as a life coach and all round people person will help you feel less self-conscious.

About us

  • Are you the photographer who will shoot my wedding?

Paul and Wendy are the owners/photographers and chances are you'll get both of us on the day. You will meet Paul and Wendy at the consultation. During bridal prep photos you may get both of us but if you'd prefer female only, please request Wendy (likewise if you'd prefer male only for groom prep please request Paul).

  • How long have you been shooting weddings?

Paul has been shooting weddings for a few years as a second photographer but 2017 is our first year doing it as our own business, therefore, our prices are currently low so we can build our portfolio. We feel it’s important to be upfront and honest about this

  • What is your photography style?

Reportage is our preferred style purely because you capture people behaving naturally and the photographer is less of a distraction on your day. However we also cover weddings as traditional wedding photographers and with a mix of styles. If we are taking photos we are happy whatever the style you choose.

  • What is reportage photography?

Simply put it’s capturing the day as it unfolds and getting the informal fun moments as well as the formal ones. Its seeing the day from a guest point of view instead of posed shots.

  • How will you and your 2nd photographer/assistants be dressed?

All Simpler Weddings staff will dress in a way that enables them to move around and do their job whilst looking smart. We will find the line between looking like a guest and the waiting staff!

  • Do you have back up equipment?

Yes, we have spare equipment should we have any failures on the day but we ensure we look after everything and prepare our gear before the day.

Booking us

  • How far in advance do I need to book you?

As we are a new business we have dates free for 2017 and 2018 but we are hoping this will change. We would need you to book at least a month before your wedding so we have time to meet and get to know you before your special day.

  • Will you travel?

We’re happy to travel within Hampshire and West Sussex at no extra cost outside of this area there will be a mileage charge. Further afield weddings may involve accommodation which you will be charged for.

  • What information do you need from me before the wedding day?

At the time of making an enquiry we need your names, the date and venue(s) and a booked consultation. At the consultation, we will gather more information such as timings, the wedding style/theme, important people attending, the package that you want and discuss what style of photography and the images that you like/want.

  • Do I have to pay in one go?

We’ll require a non-refundable deposit at the time of booking which guarantees your wedding date. The balance is payable 1 week before your wedding but we are happy to accept instalments.

  • Is mine the only wedding that day?

Yes, we want to give you our full attention so we will not take any other bookings on the day of your wedding

Choosing what you want

  • What happens at a pre-wedding consultation?

This is when we get the chance to meet each other and find out if we click, after all we will be with you for many hours on the day so it helps if you like us! The photos will be more natural if you feel relaxed around us so we generally take a couple of informal snaps of you both, then you know what to expect, plus Paul fidgets if he doesn’t take a photo for a while! We will gather all the details of your day, discuss what package you want, the style of photography you prefer and any shots that you particularly want us to capture. We will show you portfolios and albums of our work so you can see what we produce. Of course, this is also your chance to ask us any questions you might have. We know finding the right photographer is important so we won’t push you to agree to anything at this point, go away and think about it and see other photographers too.

  • Can I have something different to what’s in your package?

We offer a standard package with add ons that you can purchase to get the package that you want for the day. If you want something we haven’t thought of please ask and we will discuss it with you and see if we can make it happen.

  • Do you do traditional group shots?

It’s your special day and we’ll endeavour to get the photos you want, in the style you want. We’ll discuss exactly what you want at your consultation to make sure the images we capture are the ones you’ll look back on for years to come.

  • Do you have a shot list and can we give you one?

We don’t have a shot list because each wedding is unique, we do, however have a photobook of poses and styles so you can see what they look like to help you choose. We are more than happy for you to provide a shot list

  • Is it OK if other people take photos whilst you take photos?

Of course, everyone likes to take a photo but as you’re paying us to do so we need to make sure we can get the shots you want without Aunty Mabel and her iPhone in the way so we take priority.

The finished photos

  • Do you retouch or airbrush the images and is there a charge?

All we will do is remove items that distract from an image, for example a fire exit sign at your venue, or we will retouch blemishes/shaving cuts so you look at your best. We don’t do anymore because we want you to be able to recognise every one! There is no charge for this.

  • How long will it take to get my photos?

It will depend on which package you have and how busy we are but will deliver your USB of edited images within 4 weeks. We will also give you 2 edited images that you can use on social media within 24 hours of your wedding. After you have received your images we will arrange a date to meet up so we can help you design your album.

  • and how many will I get?

Always hard to give an answer to this one but on average we will take 50-100 photos per hour of shooting.

  • Can my friends and family see the photos?

Your images will be in a password protected gallery on our website. We will give you the password to share with your friends and family.

  • Why do my photos have your name on it?

It shows that they are our work and that we own the copyright to the images. It prevents others from passing them off as their own work.

  • Who owns the photos?

In a nut shell, we own the copyright to the images but you’re pretty much free to do what you want with the photos as long as you keep the watermark. We will explain this in more detail at your consultation.

  • Can I order prints?

We can help you choose suitable prints, sizes and frames and place an order over coffee at our studio or in your own home.

Cancellations made a month or less prior to the date will forfeit any monies paid and you will be liable for any outstanding amount.

  • What happens if you’re ill and can’t photograph my wedding?

We have more than one photographer so this should not be a problem. If required, we have worked with several local wedding photographers and will ask one of them to stand in (with your approval of course). If none of this is possible we will give you a full refund of any payments made to date

  • Will you want to be fed?

If we are with you for 5 hours or longer then we (all our team) would expect to be fed. A packed lunch is fine!

We will not post any others until we have sent you the link to your online gallery. We may use the images in suitable publications such as a bridal magazine.
